Minister Lynne Yelich Supports Canadian Veterans at Cameco Canada Remembers International Festival for Heroes

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - Aug. 6, 2011) - The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Western Economic Diversification), on behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today joined Veterans, Canadian Forces members, community leaders, and members of the public for the Cameco Canada Remembers International Festival for Heroes opening ceremony. The event honoured the contributions of Veterans and paid tribute to fallen Canadian Forces members.

"Today we honour these brave Canadians who have upheld and continue to uphold our shared values of peace, freedom and democracy," said Minister Blaney. "It is gratifying to know that younger generations have special events like the one today to remember and reflect on our country's proud military history."

The Cameco Canada Remembers International Festival for Heroes is a two-day air show tribute to Veterans and still serving Canadian Forces members. This event also recognizes law enforcement personnel, fire fighters and first responders.

"Today's event is an excellent example of how communities can carry the torch of remembrance and honour our collective national history to ensure that younger generations are aware of the important contribution of Canadian Veterans," said Minister Yelich.
