"Minister MacKay Helps Donate Christmas Trees to Military Families"

VALCARTIER, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 7, 2007) - The Honourable Peter Gordon MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is pleased to announce an initiative to donate Christmas trees to the families of Canadian Forces members serving abroad over the holiday season.

"The holidays are a very special time of year, a time many Canadians will be spending with family and friends," stated the Honourable Peter MacKay. "These Christmas trees are a thoughtful present for those military families who will be without a loved one this holiday season. I am happy to be a part of such a warm and generous initiative."

The Canadian Christmas Tree Growers Association is donating approximately 3000 trees, one to every family with a solider in Afghanistan.

"The members of our association wanted to support the families of our troops serving in Afghanistan in the best way that we can, and that is with a majestic Canadian grown Christmas tree. We wanted to fill their homes with a traditional real Christmas tree during the holidays, to show our support when families gather together" stated Larry Downey, president of the Canadian Christmas Tree Growers Association.

The donation of these Christmas trees demonstrates, in a tangible way, that Canadians are standing behind their military families. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.
