Minister Nicholson Launches the 2013 Halifax International Security Forum

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Nov. 22, 2013) - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of National Defence, today launched the fifth annual Halifax International Security Forum in Halifax, Nova Scotia, taking place from November 22 to 24.

"I firmly believe that the Halifax International Security Forum provides opportunities for Canadian voices to engage with our global friends and partners to shape discussion on international security," stated Minister Nicholson. "This global event showcases Canada's international role and leadership. Participating in open discussions on pressing security issues and sharing our views on current international trends and concerns is what makes this event truly unique and relevant for Canada."

Discussions at the Forum will cover a wide range of topics, including: current trends in international security, developments in the Middle East and Asia Pacific, cyber security, the changing nature of terrorism, and the Arctic.

Over 300 hand-picked participants are expected again this year, including many Defence and Foreign Ministers from around the world, as well as prominent Canadian and international figures from government, military, academia, media, and the private sector. Along with the Minister of National Defence, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, the Honourable Peter MacKay; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable John Baird; the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, the Honourable Steven Blaney, and senior Canadian officials will attend the event.
