OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 11, 2010) - The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, participated in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Defence Ministerial on June 10 and 11 in Brussels, Belgium. The event brought together Defence Ministers from across the Alliance for two days to discuss a range of important issues facing NATO.

"NATO is an integral player in international peace and stability," said Minister MacKay. "This meeting provides Defence Ministers of member nations with an opportunity to discuss international security issues and strengthen our cooperation."

During the meeting, chaired by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, NATO Allies discussed Afghanistan and the way ahead. They also discussed the Alliance reform and the report from the Group of Experts, NATO 2020: Assured Security; Dynamic Engagement, which outlines recommendations on a new Strategic Concept for NATO, one of the core Alliance documents.
