Minister of State Moore Meets with Tourism Stakeholders in Saskatoon

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - Dec. 2, 2010) - The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), held a tourism round-table discussion in Saskatoon today. The Minister of State highlighted the Government of Canada's commitment to this key sector of the economy and sought feedback from a number of tourism operators and representatives from area municipalities.

At the round-table meeting, Minister of State Moore spoke about the many unique tourism opportunities that Saskatoon has to offer visitors, such as being chosen as the host city for the 2012 Canadian Country Music Awards. He also congratulated Saskatoon on being named "Canada's most romantic city" by Amazon.ca earlier this year.

"I am pleased to have had the opportunity to connect directly with tourism operators and stakeholders in Saskatoon," said Minister of State Moore. "We had a very productive discussion about the many tourism opportunities in Saskatchewan and how we can all work together to capitalize on its unique potential."

In his remarks, Minister of State Moore focused on the role of the federal government in helping to promote innovation and growth for the tourism sector, which supports small business in every region of our country and helps keep thousands of Canadians employed.

He also discussed the development of the Federal Tourism Strategy (FTS). Through the FTS, the Government of Canada will work with tourism sector partners to increase awareness of Canada abroad, facilitate access to Canada for visitors, encourage the development of tourism products and foster a strong workforce.

The FTS framework was announced by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in June 2009 to help strengthen Canada's economy as the tourism sector grows and creates new jobs for Canadian workers.
