Minister of Veterans Affairs Congratulates Sunnybrook on 60th Anniversary

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 5, 2008) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today joined His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, to congratulate the staff and Veterans of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on the occasion of their 60th anniversary. Lieutenant Governor David Onley was also in attendance. June 12, 2008 will mark the official date of this campus-wide anniversary.

Minister Thompson thanked Sunnybrook staff for their dedication and hard work in ensuring excellent quality of care for our country's heroes. "Together, Sunnybrook and the Government of Canada have been proudly serving the needs of Veterans for 60 years," said Minister Thompson. "The result is a supportive environment at Sunnybrook, where our Veterans can continue to live fulfilling lives with the best of personal health care."

In 1948, Sunnybrook Veterans' Hospital opened as the largest Veterans' hospital in Canada, providing both acute and long-term care. To this day, the hospital stands as a symbol of the nation's gratitude to our Veterans.

"I am delighted that Minister Thompson and Prince Edward could join us today," said Duncan Graham, a Korean War Veteran in attendance. "It really lifts the spirits of the Veterans."
