Minister of Veterans Affairs Honours Quebec Citizens

SAINTE-FOY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - May 9, 2008) - Ten citizens of Quebec were honoured for their commitment and devotion to Veterans. The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, presented the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation to ten individuals from Quebec today during a ceremony in Sainte-Foy.

"These individuals have served their country. They have served their communities. They have served our honoured Veterans. And they have made us proud," said Minister Thompson. "We are a blessed nation to have these remarkable individuals."

Minister Thompson presented the Commendation to the following individuals:

Mychele Amberg, Baie d'Urfe

Stephane Corbeil, St. Damien-de-Brandon

Yvon Dube, St-Charles-Borromee

Jean-Luc Dutil, Quebec City

Leo Gallant, Chambly

Sylvain Hamel, Montreal

Georges Lasnier, Quebec City

Robert Lavoie, Quebec City

Viateur Lavoie, St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu

Jules Pinard, Trois-Rivieres

The Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation consists of a bar, which can be worn below official decorations on a Veteran's blazer, a lapel pin for civilian wear and a certificate.

The Commendation is presented to individuals who have contributed to the care and well-being of Veterans and to the remembrance of their contributions, sacrifices and achievements. It is intended primarily for Veterans, but in some circumstances may also be awarded to civilians. Nominations may be submitted by the public at any time and are reviewed annually by an advisory committee.
