The Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, today announced his seventh official visit to Asia. Minister Oliver will travel to India from January 11 until January 16, accompanied by a Canadian business delegation. He will meet with senior government officials and energy industry executives in Greater Noida (outside New Delhi), Mumbai and Ahmedabad to discuss the importance of enhancing trade and investment ties between Canada and India.
Building on extensive and productive Canada-India engagement over the past year, Minister Oliver will reinforce Canada's role as a reliable, secure and environmentally responsible energy supplier and promote Canada's commitment to market diversification. Scheduled events during the Minister's visit include a keynote speech in Greater Noida during PETROTECH 2014, the 11th International Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition, and a speech to the Confederation of Indian Industries in Mumbai. - India is currently the fourth-largest energy consumer in the world and is expected to quadruple its electricity supply within the next 25 years.
- In 2012, Canada-India bilateral investment was valued at $4.4 billion and two-way trade totalled $5.1 billion.
- Five cooperative agreements concerning natural resources are currently in force between Canada and India.
