Minister Oliver Promotes Investment in Canada while at Stanford University Think-Tank on California Tour

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 14, 2011) - The Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, met with influential leaders in California today as part of his trip to the United States to engage in public and private discussions on the Canada–U.S. energy relationship and the opportunities it presents to both countries.

Minister Oliver met with George Shultz, former U.S Secretary of State, and members of the Shultz–Stephenson Task Force on Energy Policy at Stanford University for an in-depth discussion to gain an understanding of the task force's work and discuss the larger issue of Canada–U.S. energy relations. The Minister also attended a Cleantech Investment Roundtable with key Silicon Valley venture capitalists, bankers and corporate clean technology leaders who are investing in Canada. The roundtable focused on the state of energy and clean technology innovation with emphasis on the growth of Canadian companies in the clean technology industry.

"Our energy relationship is an important engine driving the economies of our two great nations," said Minister Oliver. "I believe that we can create even more jobs, stimulate even more growth and further strengthen energy security — on both sides of the border."

Today, the Minister will also attend the opening of the newest Canadian Cleantech Accelerator at the Environmental Business Cluster in San Jose.

Minister Oliver will bring his message on the importance of the Canada–California and Canada–U.S. energy relationships, including the Keystone XL pipeline and the oil sands, to the World Affairs Council this evening.

"Canada is committed to developing its energy resources, including the oil sands, in a socially and environmentally responsible way," said Minister Oliver. "And we are proud to collaborate, wherever possible, with our American friends."
