Minister Raitt Addresses the 2012 International Forum of Labour Agencies

MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 12, 2012) - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, today addressed participants at a roundtable meeting during the 2012 International Forum of Labour Agencies, which Canada is hosting.

"The Forum is a valuable setting for labour and management representatives to exchange approaches to labour relations and best practices," said Minister Raitt. "In the context of a changing global economy, sharing knowledge with other advanced economies will help Canada better prepare for tomorrow's challenges."

The Canada Industrial Relations Board and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service are active participants in the International Forum of Labour Agencies. This group is composed of representatives of the national labour relations agencies and boards of eight foreign jurisdictions: Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Northern Ireland and South Africa.

The five-day Forum will address how industrial relations can best contribute to wealth creation, challenges and opportunities presented by social media, an ageing workforce and diversity in the workplace. It will also focus on how labour relations agencies can best contribute to constructive relations between workplace parties.
