Minister Raitt Announces Reappointment to Canada Industrial Relations Board

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 5, 2010) - Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Labour, announced the reappointment of Mr. John Bowman as a full-time member of the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), effective November 1, 2010.

"I am pleased that Mr. Bowman has accepted this reappointment to the CIRB, as he brings a great deal of labour relations experience to this position," said Minister Raitt. "His education and skills will continue to be valuable assets to the Board."

Mr. Bowman was first appointed to the CIRB in November 2007. For more than 30 years, he has served as a national representative with the Canadian Association of Industrial, Mechanical and Allied Workers and the Canadian Auto Workers. Mr. Bowman holds a bachelor's degree in history with a specialization in labour history from the University of Winnipeg.

The Canada Industrial Relations Board is an independent, representational, quasi-judicial tribunal. Its mandate is to interpret and apply the provisions of Part I of the Canada Labour Code dealing with bargaining rights and unfair labour practices. For more information on the Board, please visit
