Minister Raitt Applauds New Agreement Between the Saskatoon Airport Authority and the Public Service Alliance of Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 11, 2011) - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Labour, today congratulated the Saskatoon Airport Authority (SAA) and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) for successfully reaching a new collective agreement that will ensure continued service to airport users.

"I applaud SAA and PSAC for reaching a negotiated agreement without interruption to services," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour-management relations contribute to our country's economic prosperity and the economic security of Canadians."

The collective agreement, covering 25 mechanics, electricians and heavy equipment operators, expired on June 30, 2010. The dispute was settled with the assistance of a mediator from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The parties will now be able to move forward and, by working together, create a constructive labour relations environment within SAA.

The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code. Mediation aims to achieve a collective agreement and avoid a work stoppage.
