Minister Raitt Applauds Ratification of Jazz Air and CAW Collective Agreement

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 15, 2010) - Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Labour, congratulated Jazz Air Limited Partnership and the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW), Local 2002, for renewing their collective agreement without interruption of service to the traveling community.

"I am pleased to learn that all parties have facilitated a successful resolution, providing them with a stable and productive work environment," said Minister Raitt. "Our government welcomes this positive step forward, as it will ensure continued services to travelling Canadians and will help keep Canada's economy on a steady course."

The collective agreement covering approximately 35 crew schedulers had expired on June 30, 2009. This agreement was reached through extensive bargaining between both parties with the assistance of the Government of Canada's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.

The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service was established to provide dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code. Mediation aims to achieve a collective agreement and avoid a work stoppage.
