Minister Raitt Completes Consultations in British Columbia

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 15, 2010) - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Labour, wrapped up the western portion of a national tour, during which she met with a range of stakeholders, including representatives of business and labour, to discuss emerging issues regarding occupational health and safety, employment equity and Canada's continued economic recovery.

"These visits gave me the opportunity to meet employees and employers, and to discuss current workplaces issues," said Minister Raitt. "The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of occupational health and safety to our country's prosperity and productivity, and we are committed to improving these practices."

Minister Raitt is consulting with individuals across the country to highlight the Government of Canada's commitment to promoting strong and competitive businesses.

During her visit to Vancouver, Minister Raitt also led a national rountable with senior representatives of business and labour and other experts. Discussions focused on health and safety matters, including ergonomics, preventing violence in the workplace and mental health issues.
