Minister Rickford and Secretary Moniz to Hold Third Bi-lateral Meeting in Ottawa

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 9, 2014) - Natural Resources Canada -

The Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, will host Dr. Ernest Moniz, United States Secretary of Energy, in Ottawa from September 18 to 19. Discussions between Minister Rickford and Secretary Moniz will include their ongoing dialogue on Canada-U.S. energy cooperation.

Priorities include maintaining safe and modern energy infrastructure, supporting efficient energy use, exerting joint global leadership on energy and environmental issues and developing unconventional oil and gas resources responsibly.

Minister Rickford and Secretary Moniz will discuss possible Canada-U.S. joint initiatives following the G7 Energy Ministers' Meeting in May 2014. The G7 meeting was driven by events in Ukraine, which have underscored the critical role that energy security plays in economic and national security and global stability.

Minister Rickford, Secretary Moniz, and senior officials will also hold a workshop on September 19 to hear from industry, academia and think tanks regarding Canadian interactions with the United States' energy transmission, distribution and storage infrastructure.

He will also highlight the benefits of the Keystone XL pipeline - a responsibility that falls under the purview of the U.S. Secretary of State.

"I look forward to welcoming Secretary Moniz to Canada for our third meeting, and resuming the productive energy dialogue with our closest friend and neighbour. Whether through our leadership in the G7, or our deeply integrated energy infrastructure network, Canada and the United States are secure and reliable sources of energy, technology and innovative expertise for North America and the world."

Hon. Greg Rickford
Canada's Minister of Natural Resources
