Minister Ritz Announces Reappointment to the Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 3, 2014) - Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz announced today the reappointment of Bruce La Rochelle to the Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal (CART). Dr. La Rochelle's appointment is for a 3-year term effective June 21, 2015. Biographical notes are attached.

Quick Facts

  • CART is a small quasi-judicial body that provides Canadians the opportunity to request reviews of certain administrative decisions or penalties imposed under various Agriculture and Agri-Food Acts. In this regard, CART plays a key role in ensuring a fair and efficient administrative monetary penalty system.
  • The tribunal consists of members appointed by the Governor in Council and reports to Parliament through the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Biographical Note

Bruce La Rochelle

Dr. La Rochelle is a lawyer, practicing in association with the Ottawa law firm of Langevin Morris Smith LLP. He also is a part-time instructor at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa. Dr. La Rochelle is a graduate in general arts from St. Michael's College, University of Toronto (1973), and a graduate in law (magna cum laude) from the University of Ottawa (1976). He also holds an M.B.A. degree from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto (1981) and a doctorate in business administration from the Schulich School of Business, York University (1993). He has been a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1978. He is also a Chartered Professional Accountant (Ontario), having qualified as a Chartered Accountant (1982) and as a Certified Management Accountant (1991).

Dr. La Rochelle, whose childhood was spent in Saskatchewan, currently lives in Ottawa.
