Minister Ritz Announces Reappointment to the Canadian Wheat Board

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 14, 2014) - Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz today announced the reappointment of Mr. David Carefoot as a Director of the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB).

"Mr. Carefoot has been an asset to the CWB, and I am confident he will continue to draw from his extensive financial background and experience in the agriculture industry to help oversee and guide their work," said Minister Ritz.

The CWB has a five member Board of Directors which is appointed by the Government of Canada. The four members and the President are appointed by the Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister. The object of the corporation is to market grain for the benefit of producers who choose to deal with the Corporation.

Mr. Carefoot's reappointment is for a three-year term effective May 8, 2014. Biographical notes are included below.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

David Carefoot

A resident of Oakbank, Manitoba, Mr. David Carefoot has a strong background in agribusiness. Mr. Carefoot was originally appointed as a Director to the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) in 2008 and was reappointed for a second term in 2011. Over the past three years, he has served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Empire Industries (2008-10), CFO for Ducks Unlimited Canada (2010-12), as well CFO for Legumex Walker Inc. (2012-present) - a publicly traded special crops processor with 15 plants located across Canada, US, and China.

Before his initial appointment to the CWB in 2008, Mr. Carefoot served as CFO for Viterra Inc., which was formed in June 2007 when Agricore United was acquired by Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Inc. Prior to the acquisition, Mr. Carefoot spent six years with Agricore United, where he occupied the positions of CFO; Vice-President - Corporate Finance and Investor Relations; and Director of Finance. From 1996 to 2001, Mr. Carefoot worked as Corporate Controller and Manager of Finance with United Grain Growers Limited. In addition, he held a series of progressively senior posts with Price Waterhouse Coopers from 1984 to 1996.

Mr. Carefoot possesses a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Manitoba, and is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Manitoba Institute of Chartered Accountants, as well as the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators.
