Minister Ritz Attends Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers National Awards

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Nov. 28, 2014) - Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz was in Québec City today to help celebrate farming excellence at the 2014 Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers Program National Awards Gala. The National national event encourages young people to consider agriculture as a career choice, while providing a networking opportunity for established farmers and young/beginning farmers to share ideas and concepts across all commodities and aspects of Canadian agriculture.

Quick Facts

  • Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers Program received $162,500 under the Government's Growing Forward 2 AgriCompetitiveness Program, which aims to strengthen the agriculture sector's ability to adapt and compete in Canadian and global markets.
  • Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers Program is designed to recognize young farmers that exemplify excellence in their profession. Each year, one farming couple is selected at each of the program's seven Regional Recognition Events to represent their respective region at the National Recognition Event, where two of the seven honorees are chosen to be Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers.

"I am proud to be here to meet with this year's recipients of the Outstanding Young Farmers Awards," said Minister Ritz. "This event provides an excellent forum to showcase innovative ideas and celebrate the contribution of young farmers to Canadian agriculture and our overall economy."
