Minister of State Goodyear to Speak at American Association for the Advancement of Science Policy Forum

Will Showcase Canadian S&T Achievements to American Research Community

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 1, 2013) - Canada is a top destination for research talent from around the world, and international scientists and businesses will find many benefits in carrying out research and development (R&D) in our country. That is the message that the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), will present in his address to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Forum on Science and Technology Policy in Washington, D.C.

"There are unprecedented opportunities for researchers and businesses from the U.S. and other countries to build partnerships, conduct research and invest in Canada," said Minister of State Goodyear. "Our government is committed to developing new partnerships that will strengthen Canada's economy and reinforce our strong international position in science and research on the world stage."

The Minister of State's address in Washington on May 2 is the last stop of a three-city visit to the northeastern United States, during which he also met with officials from the scientific, business and university communities in Boston and New York. His discussions covered Canada's science and technology strategy, its emphasis on international partnerships, and how our long-standing cooperation with the U.S. is fostering greater engagement between institutions. Following his address at the AAAS conference, the Minister of State will meet with NASA Administrator Charles F. Bolden to discuss Canada-U.S. space R&D.

The Minister of State also visited the Canadian Technology Accelerator and Harvard University's NeuroDiscovery Center in Boston, as well as IBM's R&D facilities in New York.
