Minister Steven Blaney Attends Ottawa Premiere of The Veterans Documentary Series

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 4, 2011) - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs attended the Ottawa premiere this evening of The Veterans at the Canadian War Museum. Minister Blaney was joined by Veterans and Canadian Forces members for the first screening of the documentary series which includes 52 episodes of real life stories from the brave men and women who have served this country.

"As we prepare to mark Veterans' Week, this documentary reminds us of the commitment and dedication of our Veterans and members of the Canadian Forces," stated Minister Steven Blaney. "Our Government is proud to support projects that honour the legacy of the men and women who served and continue to serve our country. We shall not waver in our efforts to remember their sacrifice and their achievements."

The compelling documentary series was produced by Daniel Rodrique, Colonel (Ret'd) Andrew Nellestyn, and Don Mackinnon, and was funded by the Power Workers' Union and the Government of Canada. Veterans Affairs Canada is proud to be contributing up to $45,000 through the Community Engagement Partnership Fund for French-language voiceover translation and for closed captioning.

The Veterans offers a look at Canada's Veterans, their experiences during their time of service and its impact on them. The documentary covers Veterans from the First World War up to and including the mission in Afghanistan. All branches of the service are included in the series which explores the evolution of Canada's military over the past decades. The documentary was three years in production and can be viewed at It is also available at the Canadian War Museum as part of its educational program.

"It is fitting to remember the stories of such remarkable Canadian heroes," said Minister Blaney. "I hope this new documentary will help generations of Canadians better understand the important contributions of our men and women in uniform, both past and present."
