The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, was joined by Mr. Ray Paquette, a peacekeeping Veteran, at a ceremonial puck drop during an Ottawa Senators game last night. The Ottawa Senators and Veterans Affairs Canada have worked together for the past three years to honour Canada's Veterans on the occasion of Veterans' Week.

"Our Government applauds the Ottawa Senators for their efforts in honouring the sacrifices and contributions of our Veterans and our men and women in uniform," said Minister Blaney. "During Veterans Week we salute those Veterans who sacrificed so much in service to our country and we show our appreciation to those who continue to serve our country today."

Mr. Paquette, who was an Army cadet during the Second World War, was escorted on the ice by Cadets Mackenzie Yendall, Melissa Jacques and Kristal Church. Mr. Paquette joined the regular Army in 1950 and served tours in Northwestern Europe and Vietnam. For the past twenty years Mr. Paquette has been a president and player with a local oldtimers hockey league in Ottawa.

This year, during Veterans' Week, Canadians are being asked to take remembrance one step further. Show how you remember by attending a Remembrance Day ceremony, visiting a local cenotaph or monument, sharing your thoughts of remembrance online, or wearing a poppy with pride.
