Minister Steven Blaney and the Levis Commandeurs Midget AAA Hockey Team Pay Tribute to Veterans

LÉVIS, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 18, 2011) - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, joined the Lévis Commandeurs Midget AAA hockey team, their fans and local Veterans earlier this evening for a commemorative face-off ceremony. The Commandeurs' "Veterans' Night" follows on the heels of Veterans Week 2011, held from November 5 to 11, when Canadians across the country paid tribute to Veterans.

"This tribute and our presence here tonight are tangible, positive ways to show our gratitude for what our service men and women have done and continue to do for Canada," said Minister Blaney. "Our Government applauds the Lévis Commandeurs for their efforts in honouring the bravery and dedication of those who have given so much to our country. We must never forget their contributions and sacrifices."

Minister Blaney was joined by Mr. Roger Lamarre, Korean War Veteran and former member of the Royal 22e Régiment, Mr. Gaétan Pâquet, president of the Lévis branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and also a former member of the Royal 22e Régiment, and Ms. Audrey Lamontagne, chief petty officer 1st class of the Pointe-Lévy Cadet Corps.

This year during Veterans' Week, over thirty commemorative face-offs honouring Veterans were held in the province of Quebec at different hockey games, thanks to an agreement between Veterans Affairs Canada and the AAA Midget Hockey League, the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
