Minister Van Loan Announces Two Appointments to the National Parole Board

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 27, 2009) - The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of Public Safety, today announced two full-time appointments to the National Parole Board.

Ontario/Nunavut Region

Michael F. Crowley of Kingston, Ontario, is appointed as a full-time member. Mr. Crowley has vast experience in the Canadian conditional release field. He was first appointed to the Board in 1996 as a part-time member, and in 1998, he was appointed as a full-time member. From 1992 to 1995, he was Vice-chairman, Western Region, of the Ontario Board of Parole. Mr. Crowley has previously occupied a number of positions with the Ontario Ministry of Correctional Services.

Prairies Region

Harvey A. Silbernagel of Red Deer, Alberta, is appointed as a full-time member. Mr. Silbernagel has twenty-three years of service with the Correctional Service of Canada. He has occupied various positions at Bowden Institution, including Manager of Programs, Case Management Administrator and Executive Assistant to the Warden. In March 2007, Mr. Silbernagel was the recipient of the Governor General's Corrections Exemplary Service Medal.
