Minister Van Loan to Discuss Security Issues During Visit to Washington, D.C.

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 16, 2009) - The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of Public Safety, today highlighted key objectives for his meetings with members of the U.S. administration and Congress.

"With the arrival of the Obama administration we have an opportunity to improve the way we approach border security and build on our cooperative tradition to facilitate trade while making our respective citizens safer," said Minister Van Loan.

During his visit from March 16-18, Minister Van Loan will be meeting with Cabinet Secretaries, Senators, House of Representatives members, key policy experts and others in Washington. Among the officials he is meeting with are:

- Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security;

- Eric Holder, Attorney General; and

- John Brennan, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, National Security Council.
