Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie (MCCF)/Francophone Immigration: Essential for all Canadians!

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 29, 2012) - The provincial and territorial member governments of the Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie (MCCF) are continuing their catalyst role with regard to Francophone immigration in order to develop the Canadian Francophonie and Canadian society as a whole.

The MCCF brought together representatives from the federal, provincial and territorial governments responsible for immigration for its third Working Session on Francophone Immigration to Canada and the sixth Metropolis National Pre-Conference on Francophone Immigration in Canada held yesterday and today, respectively, in Toronto.

During the two events, discussions took place on challenges and opportunities related to governance, recruitment and selection of Francophone immigrants, as well as reception and sociocultural and socioeconomic integration.

MCCF members believe that the concerted actions of the various governments on this matter facilitate efforts with respect to the socioeconomic integration of Francophone newcomers into their respective communities.

The MCCF is thereby following through on its commitment to support intergovernmental cooperation initiatives intended to facilitate a discussion of Francophone immigration perspectives, knowledge, experience and expertise for the benefit of Francophones and all Canadians.

Discussions held during the Working Session and the Pre-conference will inform discussions among the ministers responsible for the Canadian Francophonie during their upcoming meeting scheduled in Edmonton on June 26 - 27, 2012.

Created in 1994, the Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie is the only intergovernmental forum bringing together federal, provincial and territorial ministers responsible for the Canadian Francophonie. The Conference works toward an open, dynamic and diverse Francophonie which contributes to, and fully participates in, the growth of Canadian society.
