Ministry Health Care Employees Shed More Than Two Tons of Weight Using Tangerine Wellness

MILWAUKEE, WI and BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - June 10, 2008) - It didn't take a lot for Ministry Health Care employees to shed unwanted pounds. In the first two months of the Tangerine Wellness program Ministry Health Care employees have reported a weight loss of nearly five thousand pounds. Tangerine Wellness is the first incentive-based weight management program that reduces the cost of healthcare for employers. Ministry Health Care, a values-driven health care delivery network of aligned hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, home care agencies, dialysis centers and many other programs and services, teamed up with Tangerine Wellness, as part of a new Ministry wellness initiative, "A Healthier You." The Tangerine program is available to 6,500 benefits eligible employees of Ministry Health Care.

Tangerine's voluntary program offers incentives to employees who improve their health by achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. The recurring quarterly program encourages weight management through individual rewards and teamwork.

Ministry's focus on weight loss improves overall individual health and lowers health care costs for the organization. The competition to lose weight between various facilities has enhanced the program's success and winning teams will make donations to local charities.

"We selected the Tangerine program because it has demonstrated positive results in other organizations," said Frank Flynn, Manager Benefits of Ministry Health Care. "We piloted the program and are confident we can achieve similar results within Ministry." Flynn lost 19 pounds during the initial Tangerine pilot.

"We realized that our employees do a great job in taking care of our patients, however they often do not provide the same attention to their own health," said Cheryl Zima, Vice President of Human Resources for Ministry Health Care. "It's important for our employees to be healthy too and our new health care initiative will focus on just that."

Over 2,000 signed up during the initial implementation of Tangerine.

Ministry is also evaluating cafeteria menus to offer more healthy food choices and encouraging increased physical activity. Using Tangerine's online tools, employees can track their progress, manage their diet and fitness, share exercise tips and offer encouragement and support to other participants.

"For large employers, initiating a wellness program for thousands of employees can be overwhelming and often unsustainable because the program is too complicated or lacks the right incentives," said Aaron Day, Chairman and CEO of Tangerine Wellness. "Tangerine's program is easy and pays for itself within the first year by reducing the cost of healthcare claims and improving the health and productivity of participating employees. Tangerine's straightforward approach improves the bottom line and the waistline too!"

The Tangerine Wellness program, which is a non-prescriptive approach to weight-loss and health improvement, focuses on the idea that not just one wellness program will work for everyone. Using Tangerine, employees earn cash and other rewards for losing weight. Employers lower healthcare costs and improve morale and productivity through Tangerine's customized, fully outsourced program that includes a suite of online and offline services. By offering cumulative rewards, and allowing participants to track their results online, Tangerine keeps the program interesting and easy for its participants.
