Miyamoto International Opens Istanbul Office

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - February 19, 2009) - Miyamoto International is expanding its international seismic engineering reach to include Turkey with the opening of a new office in Istanbul. They have joined with Fuji Architectural and Engineering to provide a full line of seismic engineering services to the region.

This merger strengthens Miyamoto International's aggressive growth strategy to provide world-class engineering solutions in areas prone to natural disasters. Bringing experience in new construction, retrofits and business interruption planning, Miyamoto International is uniquely positioned to provide consulting, design and construction services to minimize damage and loss of life.

Istanbul resides on the North Anatolian Fault -- one of the most energetic earthquake zones in the world. Should a large earthquake hit in this area, the loss of life and financial implications would be enormous. The World Bank and EU are currently financing $1.0 billion to Turkey to seismically upgrade schools, hospitals and historical monuments.

"We decided to open this office because over 1 million structures in the city do not measure up to modern building standards and would crumble in the event of a large quake," said President and CEO, H. Kit Miyamoto. "We believe our seismic engineering expertise in California, Japan and China can bring cost effective and cutting edge solutions that would not only save property but also thousands of lives."

In 1999, a horrific earthquake killing an estimated 17,480 people and injuring more than 23,000 struck the city of Izmit. Seismologists studying the North Anatolian fault believe that the hit on Izmit has set the stage for a bigger quake that will strike Istanbul within the next couple of decades.

"A key component of our work is developing cutting edge sustainable designs that improve the safety of buildings and minimizes the impact on the environment," said Yusuf Zahit Gündogdu, M.S., S.E. -- President Fuji-Miyamoto International.

In addition to Turkey, the Istanbul office will also support projects in the Middle East and other countries with the potential for high seismic activity.
