Mizuho Securities USA Launches US Equity Research Coverage With Senior Analyst Appointments


NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - October 20, 2010) -  Mizuho Securities USA ("MSUSA"), the U.S. broker-dealer subsidiary of the global Mizuho Financial Group (NYSE: MFG), today announced the launch of its US equity research platform with the appointments of senior research analysts covering the Clean Technology, Enterprise/Infrastructure Software, Healthcare, Telecommunications Equipment and Telecommunications Services sectors.

The team is led by Carmine Grigoli, MSUSA's Director of Research and Chief Investment Strategist, and reports to Robert Betack, Executive Managing Director and Head of the Equity Division. Equity research will provide a strong complement to the firm's US sales and trading product offerings in cash equities, convertibles, ETFs and program trading.

  • Peter Lawson, Senior Analyst, Life Science and Diagnostics, joins MSUSA from Thomas Weisel Partners, where he was a Managing Director on the Life Science Technology team during the past six years. Peter was awarded his D.Phil. from Oxford University, England, where his doctoral research focused on molecular biology and innate immunology.

  • Gabe Lowy, Senior Analyst, Enterprise and Infrastructure Software, has over ten years of equity research experience covering technology stocks. He has held senior analyst positions at a number of firms, including Noble Research, Collins Stewart, Blaylock & Partners, Credit Lyonnais and Salomon Smith Barney.

  • Joanna Makris, Senior Analyst, Communications Technology, has ten years of research experience covering telecom equipment companies at Canaccord Adams, Brean Murray Carret and Brigantine. Ms. Makris has received several awards from Forbes/Starmine, most recently in 2009, for stock picking and earnings estimate accuracy, and was named #1 stock picker in the Telecom Equipment sector in 2006.

  • Michael Nelson, Senior Analyst, Telecommunication Services, joins MSUSA from Thomas Weisel Partners, where he was a Managing Director covering the telecom services sector. Michael has eight years research experience covering the telecom services industry at Soleil Securities, Stanford Group, Citigroup Investment Research and Thomas Weisel Partners. He was recognized by The Financial Times/StarMine as the #1 Earnings Estimator in the Wireless Telecommunications Services Industry in 2008.
