MK5K Participants Walk Their Way to Raising Over $16,000 for The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation

MISSISSAUGA, ON--(Marketwired - September 24, 2015) - The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation's inaugural MK5K, which saw corporate staff, local independent sales force members and consumers lace up their running shoes in support of women living with cancer, as well as those women and children affected by domestic violence, on Saturday, September 12th raised over $16,000.

"We're thrilled at the response our first ever MK5K has received. Coming together as a community to raise funds in support of the Foundation truly makes a difference to those women living with cancer and affected by domestic violence," said Dawn Gerry, Director of the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation and National Director of Marketing for Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. "When you support a woman, you're supporting families and, ultimately, your community. It's an amazing thing to be able to enrich lives by giving back."

Also on hand was Executive Director of CCTFA Foundation (Home of Look Good Feel Better® & Facing Cancer Together) Sherry Abbott to accept a $100,000 cheque from the Foundation.

"I know firsthand that a supportive and caring network is crucial to meeting the social and emotional needs inherent with a cancer diagnosis. No woman should ever have to face cancer alone," says Abbott, an ovarian cancer survivor. "Thanks to our longstanding relationship with Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. and the support of the Foundation, it's in part because of generous donations like these that they don't have to."

In addition to funds and awareness raised during this charitable event, moving forward it will be known as the Diane Tsialtas Memorial Run. A wonderful loving soul, Diane worked at Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. for over 14 years and tragically passed away on September 19th, 2015. Diane was an avid runner who was passionate about health and fitness. It is only fitting this event be renamed to honour her memory -- and beautiful spirit.

Mary Kay has long recognized the importance of supporting those women undergoing cancer treatment through the Look Good Feel Better® program, as well as educating women about domestic violence and keeping them safe from it. The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation is supported by hundreds of Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants, Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. and is an important part of the legacy of Mary Kay Ash.

About The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation

The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation was established in Canada in 2001, and its mission is two-fold: to support women living with cancer through the Look Good Feel Better® program and to help end violence against women by providing grants to women's shelters and community outreach programs. Since then, it has awarded over $1,051,100 to shelters and programs addressing domestic violence and over $700,000 to help women going through cancer treatment throughout Canada.
