SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 29, 2016) - mLab, the fully managed cloud database service featuring automated provisioning, scaling, and management of MongoDB databases, today announced the release of a comprehensive guide to migrating Parse data onto an mLab-hosted MongoDB database. This guide aims to help existing Parse customers by highlighting migration best practices and addressing commonly asked questions that mLab has seen since migrating over 8600 applications onto its platform.
As part of the approaching shutdown, the Parse team has made it possible to deploy Parse Server, an open source version of the Parse backend, to any infrastructure that can run Node.js. Developers can continue using Parse by self-hosting the Parse Server software and MongoDB, the database technology that powered Parse.
mLab's step-by-step Parse migration guide includes in-depth instructions for how to move Parse data onto a MongoDB database hosted by mLab, how to create a new Parse Server, how to deploy a Parse Server onto Heroku, and how to connect client applications to the Parse Server.
mLab has been working closely with Parse for several months and has already migrated thousands of Parse customers, such as MassRoots, Music Aficionado, and Milestone Sports. In fact, mLab has been the chosen platform for 78% of Parse data migrations. mLab's Database-as-a-Service takes care of all the operational aspects of running a production MongoDB cluster so Parse developers can focus on building their apps.
"We have a strong relationship with the Parse team and have been collaborating on how to best navigate Parse users to our Database-as-a-Service platform for MongoDB," said Will Shulman, CEO, mLab. "We've welcomed thousands of new mLab users since the Parse shutdown announcement and are expecting many more as the deadline nears. With Parse wanting to have customers migrated off its service as soon as possible, we created a comprehensive migration guide that walks new mLab users through the migration process."
"We had a pressing data migration schedule that required us to move quickly. mLab's support was both professional and reassuring. The migration process went smoothly with no surprises." -- Ron Bresler, Software Architect at Milestone Sports
"mLab's cloud MongoDB platform coupled with its expert support team is a great choice for Parse developers. Their Database-as-a-Service platform is the perfect complement to Parse Server, and allows us to migrate customers off the Parse service knowing that they will be in good hands. " -- James Yu, Co-Founder at Parse
