MMRGlobal Pursues Infringements of the Company's Health IT Patent Portfolio

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Aug 20, 2012) -  MMRGlobal, Inc. (OTCBB: MMRF) ("MMR," the "Company"), a leading provider of Personal Health Records (PHRs), MyEsafeDepositBox storage solutions and MMRPro electronic document management and imaging systems for healthcare professionals, today announced it is pursuing claims for infringement against healthcare providers and other organizations based on the Company's health IT patent portfolio. As a result of changes in U.S. healthcare laws in recent years, healthcare providers will be required to provide patients access to Personal Health Records by 2014 in a manner that will make MMR's patents foundational for the industry. The Company has begun the process of contacting hospitals, healthcare providers and physician group practices that use document management, imaging and faxing to convert paper-based medical records into digital online Personal Health Records in manners that could infringe upon the Company's intellectual property. The Company will offer a program of annual renewable licenses to healthcare professionals that are not providing MyMedicalRecords.com Personal Health Records or the Company's MMRPro document management and imaging systems. In cases where infringements are inadvertent, MMR will offer reasonable non-exclusive recurring licenses based on the size of the infringement. The Company's patent portfolio has been expanded to include claims involving Personal Health Records used in clinical trials and emergency access to PHRs by first responders, both domestically and globally. The patent portfolio includes but is not limited to the following issued patents and pending applications.

The Company announced that it has retained the law firm of Liner Grode Stein Yankelevitz Sunshine Regenstreif & Taylor LLP (Liner) to lead the licensing and litigation efforts. Liner is a dynamic law firm with a distinguished roster of talented attorneys who are leading the way in their respective fields of law. Approximately half of Liner's partners were recruited from "Am Law 100" firms. Its attorneys represent clients throughout the country and internationally via the Los Angeles and San Francisco offices. Bob Lorsch, Chairman and CEO of MMRGlobal, said, "We have worked long and hard on establishing a comprehensive health IT patent portfolio which experts have valued at hundreds of millions of dollars not including all of the applications in the listing above. Our plan is to use our IP to sell our MyMedicalRecords and MMRPro products and services with embedded licenses. However, where that is not the case, we will monetize the portfolio in any way we can."

In a news release dated August 9, Ted Ward, who will lead the efforts on behalf of the Liner firm stated, "In today's business climate, more and more companies are seeing the value and merits of 'monetizing' their intellectual property assets. We are in the midst of a change where many companies have turned their IP portfolios into significant revenues. At the same time, we are witnessing a successful push by many of the Web's biggest pioneers as well as emerging growth companies like MMR that are re-asserting patent portfolios against new rivals emerging in the social media and networking space out of a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders to maximize every financial means possible."

The MMR patent portfolio was created in conjunction with the intellectual property law boutique of McKee, Voorhees & Sease, P.L.C. (MVS). MVS continues to assist in building U.S. and international patent portfolios in the health information technology and biotechnology areas. MMRGlobal's biotechnology portfolio includes three U.S. patents, four U.S. pending patent applications, six patents in foreign countries and 14 pending patent applications in foreign countries. MMRGlobal's health IT portfolio includes three U.S. patents (with a total of 81 claims), 18 pending U.S. patent applications (with hundreds of pending claims), five patents in foreign countries, and nine pending patent applications in foreign countries. MVS will continue to file and manage the prosecution of MMR patents globally in support of the Liner monetization efforts.
