MMX Resumes Mining Operations and Adjusts Its Activities in Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil


RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL--(Marketwire - May 4, 2009) - MMX Mineração e Metálicos S.A. (BOVESPA: MMXM3) hereby informs that it will resume, next Tuesday (5), the operation of its iron ore mine located in Corumbá, state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The Company had suspended its activities in the state in December 2008 due to the business environment experienced since mid last year, with the retraction of iron ore demand and the international financial crisis.

In spite of MMX's decision to resume the mining activities in Corumbá, the operation of the pig iron unit will be kept suspended. The pig iron production will be resumed according to the recovery of the steel industry, in Brazil and worldwide. Similarly, the activities of the forestry unit in Mato Grosso do Sul, which has a planted area of 6 thousand hectares, will remain suspended and the necessary maintenance activities of the planted area will be maintained.

MMX will keep its shareholders and the market in general promptly informed about any new decision related to the operation of its assets located in Corumbá (MS).
