MobileMonday Toronto Hosts M-Commerce Panel Debates Future of Payments

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 11, 2011) -

Attention Business and Technology Editors

On Monday November 7th, MobileMonday Toronto, Canada's leading mobile industry networking group, hosted an industry panel to discuss Canada's role in m-commerce and how the market could evolve.

The panel was moderated by Christie Christelis, CEO of Technology Strategies International, with panel participation from Derek Colfer, Global Mobile Product Innovation at Visa, Simon Law, CTO & Founder at Admeris, Sanjay Dhawan from Mobiroo and Gary Schwartz, CEO Impact Mobile.

"Post-event audience feedback has been great for the Mcommerce panel discussion. The discussion, at one point, was particularly heated around NFC market-timing and whether similar transactions could be done today with QR codes and a cloud based wallet," said Alexander S. Bosika and Jim Brown, co-founders of MobileMonday Toronto. "One thing is certain, regardless of NFC timing; North Americans are completing mobile commerce transactions on their phone at a far greater rate than ever before. Recent creative product launches include Starbucks iOS app which combines cloud-based payments for in-store purchases. The level of interest at our event simply validates that there heightened interest for merchants to try mobile payments today since consumers are always looking for greater convenience and simplicity to transact on the move and from their phone."

The November 7th meeting took place at the MaRS facility, located at 101 College Street (south east corner of College and University).
