Mobilisa Lands $3.8 Million Contract for ID Verification System

PORT TOWNSEND, WA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 11, 2006 -- Wireless technology innovator, Mobilisa, Inc., announced today award of a contract from the US military worth $3.8 million over the next three years. The contract is for further R&D and implementation of an advanced ID card verification system developed by Mobilisa, Inc. The system, known as Security Enhancement through Mobile Devices (SEMD), uses mobile, handheld computers in innovative ways to support military security and law enforcement personnel.

In 2005, the system has been in use throughout Navy Region Northwest, an area that includes the U.S. Navy's third largest fleet concentration, where the SEMD system has helped security personnel identify and prevent over 4,000 unauthorized individuals from gaining entry onto sensitive military installations. To date the system has scanned nearly 2 million ID cards with zero false positive readings.

A ruggedized, handheld computer running the SEMD application instantaneously reads the electronically formatted information contained on common forms of ID cards. It then compares the information in real time to various databases and alerts security personnel of individuals wanted for criminal offenses or who are barred from the base for other reasons. The system also uses advanced Artificial Intelligence techniques to identify fake IDs. The system works with existing military and government ID cards. There is no need to issue or create a special ID card, which is a major cost savings to the government.

The ID system is in use at over a dozen US military installations from the Pacific Northwest to our Nation's Capitol Region. This includes high security areas such as Bangor Submarine base and Andrews Air Force Base, which is home to President's Air Force One.

A commercial version of the system also scans drivers' licenses and passports. The system has a wide range of civilian applications from preventing ID fraud at banks, to validating ID cards and producing manifests in transportation industry, to giving law enforcement officials a handheld tool that can do an instant check for wants and warrants.
