Moderator to Lead Youth in Prayer and Song on Parliament Hill

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 15, 2012) - This afternoon, during a break in the proceedings of the 41st General Council at Carleton University, United Church Moderator Mardi Tindal, will lead a group of about 100 United Church youth to the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill to participate in a public prayer vigil for Parliamentarians.

Tindal, the spiritual leader of Canada's largest Protestant denomination, The United Church of Canada, says the gathering is intended to demonstrate the church's strong support for all those who have committed themselves to serving the common good as politicians and public servants.

The service is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. Tindal will be available to speak to reporters immediately before the forty-five minute prayer and hymn service.

Tindal has encouraged delegates to the 41st General Council, many of whom will be participating in local excursions on Wednesday afternoon, to stop whatever they're doing at 2:15 p.m. to say their own prayer for Canada's government officials.

Ottawa-area United Church congregations that are not otherwise busy hosting afternoon events for General Council delegates have also been invited to join the prayer vigil on Parliament Hill.
