Molson Reaches Agreement With Union to Transform Layoffs Into Nearly 100 Regular Positions at its Montreal Brewery

Good news following the product transfer announced in 2008

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 26, 2009) - Molson is pleased to announce that it is reclassifying nearly 100 temporary positions at its Montreal brewery into regular positions. This move mitigates the impact of a workforce reduction of 120 employees, announced late 2008, as part of the transfer of the production of Blue Moon beer for the U.S. market back to the MillerCoors U.S. breweries.

This decision was made possible by the contribution of regular employees, mainly from the production and distribution sectors, voluntarily accepting early retirement incentive packages after a deal was ratified by Teamsters Quebec Local 1999.

By voluntarily accepting the early retirement packages, the regular employees allowed the reassignment of regular positions to personnel who held until now temporary jobs.

"In this current economic climate of massive job cuts, Molson is proud to be one of the few companies able to deliver some good news about job creation," said Daniel Pelland, Molson's Chief Brewing Officer. "Despite the transfer in Blue Moon production volume back to the U.S., we were intent on minimizing as much as possible the impact of the jobs losses. Thanks to the leadership and contribution of all parties, Molson was able to create a win-win situation for our employees. And it makes good business sense; by retaining our people, we will continue to benefit from our investment in their expertise and commitment."

Guy Deslauriers, Teamsters Quebec Local 1999 representative, added: "The union is very pleased by this good news. We worked to protect the jobs of younger employees by essentially turning a potential workforce reduction into the creation of new regular positions. Due to natural attrition and by offering our older employees early retirement incentive packages, we are also well positioned to take on the competition as well as generate new production at our Montreal brewery."
