Molson Urges Hockey Fans to Get their Cup On

Brewer takes Memorial Cup on road trip across Lower Mainland

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - May 3, 2007) - Molson is calling on hockey fans to get out their favourite jersey, grab a buddy and head on down to get their picture with the Memorial Cup, as the brewer takes major junior hockey's top trophy on a road trip across the Lower Mainland.

Canada's oldest brewer will be touring the 88-year-old trophy through 16 government liquor stores in Richmond, Surrey, Vancouver, Delta, Burnaby, North Vancouver, Port Coquitlam and Langley from May 3rd to May 13th.

Fans will get a chance to pose for a picture with the Memorial Cup and receive it in a custom frame, courtesy of Molson. Fans can look for specially-marked Memorial Cup displays at their local government liquor store.

"Molson Canadian is the number one beer for hockey fans in Canada, and Molson is proud to play our part to support the top major junior hockey tournament in Canada," said Tim Cowley, Molson's field marketing manager in British Columbia.

Molson is a true fan and proud sponsor of all levels of hockey in Canada from the national men and women's Olympic teams, to NHL teams like the Vancouver Canucks, to WHL teams like the Vancouver Giants. Molson is also a leading sponsor of the 2007 MasterCard Memorial Cup, to be held in Vancouver from May 18th to May 27th.

"It's great to have a company like Molson, with its deep roots in hockey from coast to coast, associated with this tournament," said Stu Ballantyne, general manager of the 2007 MasterCard Memorial Cup in Vancouver.

The Memorial Cup was first awarded in 1919 to the University of Toronto hockey team. The trophy was originally intended to honour Canada's fallen during World War I but has come to symbolize major junior hockey supremacy. The MasterCard Memorial Cup has evolved into an 11-day event, complete with individual awards and a tournament all-star team.

The Vancouver Giants are hoping to become just the seventh host team to ever win the Memorial Cup. The last host club to win it was the London Knights of the OHL, in 2005.
