Monocle Health Data Examines the Healthcare Transparency Revolution

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - Sep 5, 2012) - Healthcare transparency is finally emerging, fueled in large part by spiraling healthcare costs and more revelations of wide price and quality disparities. However, the transparency field is still so new that there is a lack of transparency comparison standards.

Monocle Health Data developed a white paper that looks at seven transparency companies in this fledgling industry and evaluates offerings in four key categories critical to providing true transparency:

  • Unbiased
  • Credible
  • Meaningful
  • Measurable

The white paper is titled, "The Search for True Healthcare Transparency" and was written by Monocle's President and CEO, Mike Cadger. Cadger has 30+ years of experience in the healthcare financial field, including PwC Healthcare Partner as well as CEO and CFO positions with both hospitals and insurance companies.

"As we looked at companies purporting to offer healthcare transparency, we realized that their descriptions of offerings were themselves far from transparent," explains Cadger. "Our researchers examined the products against 25 metrics in four categories; the white paper summarizes our findings."

Monocle uses proprietary algorithms to rank and rate healthcare providers for both quality and price. The company validates its findings by using multiple databases, including public, semi-public and private sources. Monocle is unique in providing a transparency solution that covers individual procedures as well as the total annual cost of treating chronic illnesses.
