Monsanto makes two-year commitment to Team Jennifer Jones
WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - Sept. 15, 2008) - Team Jennifer Jones - the reigning Canadian and World Women's curling champions - has extended its relationship with Monsanto Canada, signing a two-year sponsorship deal that will secure financial support for the team until April 30, 2010.
The sponsorship package includes monetary support and performance incentives, title sponsorship of the team, company logo placement on both on-ice and off-ice team clothing and promotional/public appearances for Monsanto by members of the team for both the 2008/09 and 2009/10 competitive seasons. Financial details of the sponsorship agreement were not disclosed.
Monsanto Canada became the team's premier sponsor in 2007-08, a season to remember for the Jones team. Historically one of the most recognized and strongest competitive women's curling teams in Canada, the Jones team was crowned Manitoba Provincial Champions, Canadian Champions and World Women's Curling Champions in 2008 in addition to securing first place finishes in a number of events on the World Curling Tour.
"After a season like the team had last year we can't envision anything better in terms of profile and achievement," said Trish Jordan, Monsanto Canada's public affairs director. "The girls took us on a wild but exciting ride and we were honoured to be there with the team and their families every step of the way. Our relationship with the team and their connection to our farm customers and employees is tremendous. We are thrilled to be with them right through their quest for Olympic gold."
The Jones team consists of Jennifer Jones (skip); Cathy Overton-Clapham (third); Jill Officer (second); Dawn Askin (lead); and Jennifer Clark-Rouire who joined the team midway through last season. They continue to be coached by long-time coach Janet Arnott.
Team Jones is the most recognized competitive women's team in the country and has achieved considerable success over the past few years. They have appeared at the Canadian Scottie's Tournament of Hearts the last four years, finishing in the top three each time and capturing the championship in 2008 and 2005. The Jones team has been ranked number one on the World Curling Tour and number one on the Canadian Team Ranking System the last three years and was the 2006 and 2007 Women's Player's Champion. They have also already qualified for the 2009 pre-Olympic curling trials.
"Last year was incredible and will always be a season to remember for our entire team but our long-term goal is to win Olympic Gold in Vancouver in 2010," said Jones. "Corporate support from a title sponsor such as Monsanto is critical to make our dream a reality. The people at Monsanto have been incredibly supportive of both our team and the sport of curling in Canada. We are thrilled to have them with us for the next two seasons."
Monsanto Canada's sponsorship of the Jones team builds on its support for curling in Canada and its long-term relationship with the Canadian Curling Association (CCA). Monsanto Canada remains the Presenting Sponsor of the 2008 Continental Cup, the 2009 Manitoba Provincial Women's Curling Championship, the 2009 Tim Hortons Canadian Curling Trials and its pre-Trials qualifier, and the 2009 and 2010 Tim Hortons Brier. The company will also be a Diamond Sponsor at the 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts where Team Jones will defend its Canadian Championship title.
