Montana Medical Growers Association Distributes 2011 Legislators' Guide to Medical Cannabis to House and Senate Members

BOZEMAN, MT--(Marketwire - January 20, 2011) - Recently the members of the 62nd Montana Legislature received a unique item in their mailboxes. The 2011 Legislators' Guide to Medical Cannabis, A Comprehensive Guide to Medical Cannabis in the State of Montana was designed to be a one-stop reference tool for House and Senate members as they tackle the subject of changing the Montana Medical Marijuana Act (I-148).

I-148, which permits qualifying patients in Montana to utilize medicinal cannabis, passed with 62% of the vote in 2004. An exponential jump in the number of applicants over the course of the last year prompted the Children, Families, Health and Human Services Interim Committee to convene last summer and propose changes to the current law. As the new Legislative session begins, the topic of medical cannabis in Montana is at the forefront of the floor debate.

The Montana Medical Growers Association developed the guide for legislators to help frame the issues facing the medical cannabis industry. Included in the guide are recommendations that would meet the specific needs of patients, the industry and law enforcement, while dissuading the fears of the general public. The guide contains historical background, a reference guide of terminology, and research material on how medical cannabis may benefit varying medical conditions.

"We wanted legislators to be able to find the information quickly that would enable them to make well informed decisions regarding their proposed changes to the medical cannabis law in Montana," explained Jim Gingery, Executive Director of the Association. "The amount of misinformation that is circulating out there is overwhelming. Our legislators needed an easy-to-use resource of good, reliable, and factual information."

Copies of the guide may be downloaded at no cost by visiting www.solutions4montana.org. Printed copies are available for a $15 donation. Donations will be used to fund future materials to ensure the patients of Montana continue to receive the compassionate care they have come to expect.
