Monteregie Tourism Association Receives $198,400 in Funding From Government of Canada

LONGUEUIL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 19, 2011) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the awarding of $198,400 in non-repayable financial assistance to the Association touristique régionale de la Montérégie for the creation of a world-class tourism circuit highlighting regional monuments and historical sites connected with the Anglo-American War of 1812.

"The Government of Canada supports this Montérégie tourism association project because of the role it promises to play in helping to diversify the local economy and in making the region a top-notch destination for tourists," explained Minister Lebel.

The association's project involves evaluating the feasibility and cost of creating this unique, themed tour and of setting up a dedicated area at the Maison de Tourisme Montérégie, which recently opened its doors in Brossard's Quartier Dix30, to showcase period objects and promote the circuit and other events commemorating the upcoming bicentennial anniversary of the War of 1812.

This financial assistance from the Government of Canada has been granted through Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program.
