Montreal Matrix, American Basketball Association New Franchise in Canada, to Play Professional Basketball Next Fall

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 10, 2005) - "Professional basketball will be played in Montreal next fall", announced today Pascal Jobin, General Manager and Coach. "The Montreal Matrix, American Basketball Association (ABA) new franchise in Canada, will begin the 2005-2006 season next November. Games will be played at Centre Pierre-Charbonneau, 3000 Viau Street (Metro Viau)."

In preparation for the upcoming season, to begin mid-November, 2005, the Montreal Matrix will hold try-outs on September 3 and 4. Team's management will announce the location of the try-outs at a later date. Ten athletes, selected during the try-outs, will be invited to the Matrix's training camp scheduled to begin on November 1st.

The Montreal Matrix will play 18 games in Montreal. The team will be part of ABA's Roger Brown Division, along with teams from Boston, Long Island, Harlem and Newark. Tickets for the games, already on sale, will be very affordable for all, a unique policy of the ABA. "We want kids and families to be able to afford to come to our games", stated Pascal Jobin. The Montreal Matrix is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract with its first sponsor. Niva Sports, the largest provider of sports uniforms for schools and sport organizations in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes, has agreed to provide the Montreal Matrix's players and coaching staff with uniforms. Additionally, Niva Sports is teaming up with New Balance to provide basketball shoes.

The Montreal Matrix is owned by Serena Locker-Coles, originally from Quebec and now residing in the United States, and Jerome Williams, star player with the New York Nicks.
