Montreal-New York Challenge 2012: Esprit de Corps' Foundation Conquers Times Square-A 600 Km Relay Run

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK--(Marketwire - June 3, 2012) - Having left Montreal Thursday evening, the 136 runners of the Esprit de Corps' Foundation will set foot in Times Square today at 2 PM. The 72-hour relay run, widely known as the Montreal - New York Challenge is a fundraiser for the good cause of supporting single-parent families through difficult times.

Over 600 km in 72 hours

To reach Times Square, the participants of the 7th edition of the Montreal - New York Challenge will have run over 600 km in 72 hours. Divided into teams, each participant will have run over 84 km - the equivalent of two marathons - in three days, a day-and-night journey through Quebec and the United States.

After crossing the border at night and having run from checkpoint to checkpoint across the entire state of New York, the runners will cross the finish line under the same positive and energetic atmosphere that has reigned throughout this challenge despite the accumulated fatigue of the participants.

It will be an intense and emotional moment, marking the peak of weeks of preparations.

Let's not forget that over 50% of the participants had never run before joining this program, but were all adequately prepared for this challenge by the Esprit de Corps' Foundation.

Sessions on running technique, nutrition, mental focus, transactional analysis and group training were involved in the preparations, to name but a few. In addition to personalised running and body building programs, all participants also took part in a workshop and training schedule designed to provide them with the required tools to take up such a challenge.

Running for a cause

Each participant raised 3000 dollars in order to join the challenge. The funds raised will help support one of the Foundation's important causes: single-parent families in need. Thanks to the accumulated funds raised by the Montreal − New York Challenge 2012, the Foundation hopes to help over 50 single-parent families (therefore at least 100 children) by helping them maintain their health and face various difficulties.

Join us in congratulating the runners!

They will arrive in Times Square at 2 PM at the conclusion of this unique challenge. Come and congratulate them!
