Montreal-Trudeau to Be Linked to the City at Last as Part of a High-Frequency, Reliable Light Rail Transit System

MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - April 22, 2016) - Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) is delighted with today's announcement by CDPQ Infra of the details of its light rail transit (LRT) project, to include service to Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.

ADM also says it is especially pleased with the choice of Central Station as the downtown stop on the network. Central Station is in the centre of Montréal, in the heart of the business district, very close to the Palais des Congrès convention centre and within walking distance of a large number of hotels.

"CDPQ Infra's great strength is having been able to optimize the capacity of the Mount Royal tunnel by making it wholly LRT-dedicated," Mr. Cherry noted.

Furthermore-and yet another reason to celebrate-the electric network will provide easy access to the métro and other public transit services. For business customers and tourists, as well as for the thousands of airport workers who live in and around Montréal, the electric network will prove to be by far the best possible transportation option.

"The most important thing for the airport is to have a frequent, reliable, round-the-clock form of access," Mr Cherry stated. "However, compared with the Syste╠Çme le╠üger sur rail de l'Ouest that we previously developed with the Société de transport de Montréal, the track route suggested by CDPQ Infra is less direct and longer. Still, we think it will be possible to improve the project with departure frequencies that are closer together and with express trains between the airport and downtown at some peak airport rush hours."
