Montreal's Artillery Regiment Parades on Mont Royal

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 25, 2008) - Approximately 70 soldiers of the 2nd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery will march from their armoury on Cote-des-Neiges to the Mount Royal look-out for a change of command ceremony this Sunday.

The current commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Michel Bourque, will pass on his command to the incoming commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Daniel Parent during the ceremony that will be presided by Colonel Richard Lapointe, commander of the 34th Canadian Brigade Group, the guest of honour for this occasion.

As the only artillery regiment of Montreal, this unit is quite proud of its association with the city and the Mount Royal. In 1862, members of the Regiment fired an artillery gun salute from the top of Mount Royal. This event paved the way for the purchase of the mountain by the city to create its current park.

The population of Montreal is cordially invited to attend the ceremony.

When : Sunday September 28, 2008, at 2 p.m.
Where : Mount Royal look-out.
In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the armoury at
4185 Cote-des-Neiges.
