MoPiD™ Deployed in Mobile Phone by NEC

TOKYO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 25, 2005 -- Aplix Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Ryu Koriyama) announced today its Mobile PictDirect (MoPiD™) product was deployed in the NEC N850 mobile phone. MoPiD enables printing directly from mobile phones to printers. This marks the first NEC model based on a new platform to be deployed. NEC's mobile phones with MoPiD are also planned to be available in a variety of other markets in the future on this same platform.

As megapixel-class cameras have become a more common feature on mobile phones, an increase in demand for printing pictures captured by these mobile phones has followed. MoPiD solves this new requirement by enabling direct printing via a USB cable from mobiles phones utilizing PictBridge*.

Aplix also provides the JBlend™ Java™ Platform to wireless operators and device manufacturers around the world both inside and outside Japan. JBlend's cumulative shipments surpassed 112 million in both mobile phones and consumer electronics as of March 2005. MoPiD is a relatively new software product that complements the JBlend platform through the expansion of features and functionality available to our customers.

PictBridge is a standard for connecting a digital camera and printer directly via a USB cable, and printing without using a PC. Established by the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA), this standard is endorsed by a large number of manufacturers of digital still cameras and printers, and has become the de-facto industry standard.
