More Fire Cuts Meetings Planned as Over 100 Attend Friday Night's Public Meeting to Oppose Hemsworth & South Elmsall Fire Cuts

WEST YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND--(Marketwire - Dec. 5, 2011) - Over 100 people attended a public meeting in Hemsworth on Friday 2nd December to make their opposition known to West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service plans to cut fire cover in the area. Councillors from neighbouring Royston, whose fire station is threatened by cuts by South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, also attended the meeting to voice their opposition to the cuts, which will affect the reciprocating fire cover arrangements with South Yorkshire in the district.

West Yorkshire Fire Brigades Union Secretary Mark Wilson said,

"The depth of objection to these cuts, which clearly put both public and Firefighter safety at risk in both brigades, is now evident by the exceptional attendance this evening. The many members of the public who took the time and inconvenience to attend this evening's meeting were, even after the West Yorkshire FRS had presented their case, overwhelmingly opposed to the changes proposed in the Hemsworth & South Elmsall area.

"We strongly urge people to attend the meetings next week in South Elmsall and South Kirkby and make their views on these proposals known."

The times, dates and locations for further public meetings in the area are:

Monday 5th December, at 7p.m. at the South Elmsall Social Centre, Westfield Lane.

Wednesday 7th December at 7p.m. at The Grove, Stockingate, South Kirkby.
