Drivers sharing the roads with RTL-Westcan vehicles in Western Canada and the Northwest Territories are seeing a poignant illustration of the tragedy caused by impaired driving.
Forty trailers in the RTL-Westcan fleet feature large decals with a photo of 16-year-old Keisha Trudel, who was killed in an impaired driving crash in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories.
Along with Keisha's photo is a reminder to motorists to help police take impaired drivers off the roads by calling 911 to report any driver they suspect is impaired.
For Keisha's mother, Sharon Allen, the awareness campaign is an important way that her daughter's memory can help prevent similar tragedy from happening to others.
"I hope that drivers see Keisha's picture and it makes them realize that her death was completely preventable," Ms. Allen said. "I hope it will help people make safe and responsible choices. Arrange a sober ride home. Never ride with an impaired driver. And call 911 if you see a driver you suspect is impaired. All of these things help save lives."
Keisha's story is the second to be featured on RTL-Westcan's vehicles. In 2012, RTL-Westcan added decals to 40 trailers featuring the story of 16-year-old Michael Knox, who was killed in a crash with an impaired driver in Alberta.
