More Than 48% of Prospective B-school Students Plan to Clean Up Online Profiles, According to Survey by Stacy Blackman Consulting

B-school Applicants Are Increasingly Incorporating Social Media Into Their MBA Admissions Strategies

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - May 27, 2014) - Prospective b-school students are increasingly taking social media into account when crafting an MBA admissions strategy. A new survey by Stacy Blackman Consulting, a leading b-school admissions consulting firm, found that a full 48.3% of applicants planned to review and clean up their online profiles prior to completing business school applications.

The survey also revealed that:

  • 29.9% of applicants plan to "follow" or connect with school contacts through social media sites
  • 19.27% plan to create a new online presence (such as a blog or Instagram account) to enhance their application
  • 16.14% plan to inform admissions committees of relevant social media accounts, in the hopes of bolstering the stories in their application

The data is based on a survey that was conducted between April 15, 2014 and April 24, 2014, with 675 respondents.

"In today's world, almost everyone has both an online and an offline identity. It's important to take the online brand seriously, as it is often your very first impression, in MBA admissions and in life," said Stacy Blackman, President of Stacy Blackman Consulting. "Your online brand can help you or hurt you. For a b-school applicant, proper and proactive management of social media channels can also help expand the scope of the MBA application."

To help b-school applicants strengthen their social media presence, Stacy Blackman Consulting offers a social media review, designed by a former resident social guru at Yahoo!. The review includes consultation with a social media expert; a constructive review of an applicant's online presence, including social and search results; and strategic recommendations for suggested edits and improvements to applicants' profiles and overall online presence. The service is available a la carte and is also included with the "All-In" comprehensive package. Applicants can learn more at www.StacyBlackman.com/social.
