More Than 70 Elite Canadian Athletes to Work The Phones on June 7th in Support of Their Dreams

Canadians coast to coast are invited to bid on more than 400 items in Shaw's second 'Making it Happen' auction to support Can Fund and Canadian athletes

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 4, 2009) - More than seventy of Canada's high-performance athletes are teaming together on Sunday, June 7th to participate in Shaw's (TSX:SJR.B) (NYSE:SJR) second nation-wide auction.

The Making it Happen auction will be broadcast live across Canada on Shaw TV and Shaw Direct from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm PT on June 7th. Funds raised from the auction will go to the Canadian Athletes Now Fund (CAN Fund) to support our national athletes as they prepare to represent Canada. Canadians will be able to bid by phone or online as items come up for auction throughout the broadcast. The online site is now live for viewers to preview more than 400 auction items and pre-bid on ten select items.

"The Making it Happen auction is about raising funds for athletes - but it's also about raising our national spirit. We're proud to support our athletes as they train to compete for Canada," said Peter Bissonnette, President Shaw Communications, Inc. "Our goal is to help raise $1 million for our national athletes by the end of the year."

Participating in the auction are 70 elite athletes including members of the Men's 8 rowing team (2008 Olympic Gold Medalists); speed skater Jeremy Wotherspoon (1998 - silver 500m, 2002,2006, 12 time World Cup Overall Champion) and Simon Whitfield, triathalon (2000 Gold medalist, 2004, 2008 Silver medalist).

"For twelve years, the CAN Fund has been working to directly support Canadian athletes. Our national athletes put everything they have into competing for Canada with very little financial support. They often have to choose between updating their equipment and paying their bills. But for the hundreds of dedicated competitors across our country, it's worth the sacrifice," said Jane Roos, Founder and Executive Director of the Canadian Athletes Now Fund. "The Shaw Making it Happen auction is a way for Canadians across the nation to stand behind our athletes and show their support."

Unique items up for bid include a Chris Isaak signed guitar, Jonas Brother concert tickets, several trips, electronics, signed athlete memorabilia, and much more.

In addition to the 400 items up for bid on June 7th, ten pre-bid items are now available to bid on, including a VIA Rail tour across Canada; a 13" MacBook; and an Alaska Cruise Plus Westjet giftcard.

About the Canadian Athletes Now Fund

The Canadian Athletes Now Fund is a not-for-profit organization devoted solely to raising money and awareness for our Canadian athletes. Celebrating its 11th anniversary, the Fund has helped over 600 Canadian athletes prepare for international summer and winter competitions. Canadian athletes allocate this direct financial support to their training, coaching, nutrition and living expenses. For every contribution over $25 a tax receipt is issued and the donor finds out which athlete they have supported.
